Mechanical Design, Manufacturing & Automation Major is one of the earliest established majors since the founding of our university. It is a national level special major (development station) and key major of Jiangsu Province, and is among the first-batch majors of the university to recruit postgraduate students for master’s degree.
The major has a series of teaching and scientific platforms, including experiment and teaching demonstration center of Jiangsu Province colleges and universities, key development laboratory of Jiangsu Province colleges and universities, outstanding teaching team of Jiangsu Province colleges and universities, national level college & university students off-campus practice base, etc. The major has witnessed remarkable education and teaching achievements, and won 1 First-class Prize and 1 Second-class Prize for Teaching Achievements of Jiangsu Province. In recent years, the students have won 10 national level prizes, including the “Challenge Cup”, 48 provincial level prizes, and received around 50 licensing patents.
Development objectives: To train technicians and on-site engineers with innovative spirit, practice capability, self-development potential as well as mastery of basic theoretical knowledge and practical skill necessary for mechanical product design and manufacturing, mechanical equipment control and maintenance, who can be engaged in craft design, technological development, application research and production management, or to train vocational education faculty members who can be engaged in specialized theory and practice teaching with respect to mechanical majors in medium or higher vocational colleges.
Development characteristics: This major dynamically combines general education and professional education, applies mechanical science, mechanical manufacturing technology, electronics technology and computer technology as the main part to construct basic course system of the discipline, and also takes into consideration the engineering science education and engineering practical training to develop the “double capabilities” engineering technology talents with sound personality, noble character, solid foundation, a wide range of knowledge, strong application capability and innovative spirit.

Mechatronic Engineering
This is the key major of Jiangsu Province and also our university’s special brand major.
Development objectives:To train technicians and on-site engineers with innovative spirit, practice capability, self-development potential as well as mastery of basic theoretical knowledge and practical skill necessary for testing, adjustment and control and maintenance of electromechanical equipment system and control system design, who can be engaged in craft design, technological development, application research and production management, or to train vocational education faculty members who can be engaged in specialized theory and practice teaching related tomechatronic majors in medium or higher vocational colleges.

Characteristics 2: Development model of “scholar + technician”
Scholar-technician model is a dynamic integration instead of simple superposition. Students trained under this development model become technicians with academic capability, who not only have operation capability of engineering technicians, but also have certain academic and scientific research ability and innovative ideas. The students have strong knowledge transfer and innovative capability, are good at finding and solving problems, and are capable of overall thinking and innovative thinking with decision-making and transfer abilities.
Characteristics 3: Development model of “integration of industry-university-research-employment”
Course design and teaching contents lay emphasis on enhancement of basic knowledge and training of innovative capability and presentation skills, especially the enhancement in practice, which highlights the characteristics of industry-university-research cooperative education. It closely integrates teaching activities, enterprise practice and design service into a whole, thus achieving excellent teaching outcome and rapid improvement of students’ innovative capability. We closely combine scientific research and practice of typical mechatronic system design, continuously improve development level of the major, and establish sound cooperative relation with multiple enterprises, which is expanding constantly.

In recent years, the courses of Robot Principles, Industrial Robots, Robot Control & Maintenance, and other courses in robot major or orientation are added.
Employment condition & trend: The graduates can be engaged in design, manufacturing, use, maintenance, production equipment management and technical improvement of mechatronic products and mechatronics system in enterprises or public institutions, and can be equipped with the capability to carry out technical and economic analysis as well as production and organization management, and the students can work on teaching, scientific research and administration in colleges and universities, scientific research institutions and state organs. The graduates enjoy wide employment choices and high employment quality with employment rate over 98%.
Process Equipment & Control Engineering
Development objectives:This major provides training to high-level engineering technology talents with moral integrity and professional competence who are able to be engaged in design, manufacturing, R & D and operation management of process equipment and control.
Development characteristics: Through learning, the students will acquire solid theoretical foundation and basic skills in Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering & Electronics, Testing Control, Computer, etc., master mechanical design and manufacturing technology, industrial control technology, hydraulic and CNC technology and other applied technology and skills, and have integrated ability in design, use and maintenance of process equipment, as well as certain technical analysis and production organization and management ability in the process of product manufacturing. Our university signed a cooperative agreement with Zenith Steel Group Company Limited in April 2015 to jointly open “Zenith Class”, which cultivates on-site equipment maintenance technicians by directed training. Zenith Steel and our university establish a professional teaching team together to comprehensively promote “the system of on/off-campus supervisors”, jointly prepare talent training plan and development courses and finish teaching of related courses and instruction of graduation design to fully improve the talent development quality.

Experiment & Training Center of
the College of Mechanical Engineering
The experiment & training center is an important department under key development of our university, which integrates teaching, scientific research and social service into a whole. Under the instruction of the idea of “great engineering education”, the center closely follows our university’s development objective for training of “double capabilities” vocational education faculty members and high-level application-oriented specialized talents, adheres to the coordinated development of knowledge imparting, capability development and quality improvement, and makes great efforts to develop the students’ engineering practical ability, integrated analysis and design ability, scientific research ability and innovative spirit.
Teaching tasks mainly undertaken by the center include industrial training and metalworking practice of students majoring in engineering or engineering-related disciplines of our university, experiment and training of specialized courses, such as Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Mechatronic Engineering, Process Equipment & Control Engineering, Material Forming & Control Engineering, etc. and professional skill training. Upon approval, the center has established 2 experiment & teaching demonstration centers of Jiangsu Provincecolleges and universities, 1 key development laboratory of Jiangsu Province colleges and universities and 1 key laboratory of Changzhou City. The center covers an area of over 10000m2, and the total value of its equipment is over RMB 50 million, with 360 sets of valuable precision equipment whose unit value over RMB 10,000. The center employs 32 full-time and part-time teachers, including 15 with senior professional title, 10 with intermediate professional title and 12 technicians or senior technicians.
The center keeps improving to meet the development requirements for diversified talents, aims at building first-class training center of students' innovative quality and dynamically integrates the development of laboratory, major, course and discipline into a whole. The center establishes the laboratory of mechanical design & innovation, the laboratory of mechatronics innovation and the laboratory of robot innovation, which are laboratories with multiple disciplines and majors interacting with each other.
Over the years, the center provides teaching and training, and also opens to the outside world at the same time to actively meet the demand for talents for regional economic development and provide training to around 10,000 medium or high-level or technician talents serving the society in the posts, such as numerical control lathe operators, machining center workers, vehicle fitters. The center actively participates in national vocational education faculty member training and trains a large numbers of application-oriented talents for the machinery-related majors in the field of vocational education nationwide.
